Health and parental socio-economic status across England and Wales

Stephen Machin and Jack Blundell, London School of Econmics and Political Science and Brian Bell, King's College London

(Project no. 1013240)

Children growing up in poorer households tend to have worse health outcomes as adults. While this has been shown to hold on aggregate in England and Wales, little is known about the extent to which the strength of this relationship varies across areas. Our project will deliver the first area-specific estimates of the link between family background and adult health in England and Wales. These will be valuable to policy makers and academics seeking to understand potential drivers of the link between childhood circumstances and later health outcomes.
