Occupational mobility: evidence from England and Wales

Maria Ventura and Camille Landais, London School of Economics and Political Science

(Project no. 2000408 / 1015708)

This project aims to investigate the presence of intergenerational persistence in occupations in England and Wales. It also aims to propose and test potential mechanisms that could explain the documented degree of (im)mobility (education transmission, parental wealth, or some other barrier to entry). Moreover, this research will also shed light on the extent to which occupational persistence can account for intergenerational income and social class mobility, given that the latter has been a hot topic in the public debate in the UK in the last few years.
