Cancer diagnosis and outcomes amongst Pakistanis and their descendants in England and Wales

Joseph Harrison, Hill Kulu and Frank Sullivan, University of St Andrews

(Proect no. 2001557)

Using the ONS Longitudinal Study, this research will study cancer diagnosis and survival in the Pakistani community. Cancer rates will be compared between immigrant generations with British-born Whites as the reference category. Differences in survival outcomes of people diagnosed with cancer will be compared between groups. Supplementary analysis will look at different types of cancer. The research will increase knowledge about differences in the onset and survival of cancer between the Pakistani minority and the British-born White majority, and between immigrant generations. Expanding this knowledge offers the opportunity to improve policy to assist in the design and delivery of intervention strategies with the aim of lowering cancer development across the country.
