Intergenerational transfers and the transmission of inequality

Peter Levell, David Sturrock, Elaine Drayton, Institute for Fiscal Studies

(Project no. 2003220)

Using the ONS Longitudinal Study (LS), this research will examine the intergenerational effects of the UK housing wealth boom. We will examine the effects of increases in parental wealth on child outcomes such as education, occupation choice and homeownership. This will shed light on the drivers of social mobility and differences in economic opportunity across areas of England and Wales. This project will yield academic working papers and journal articles which will provide valuable evidence to policy makers concerned with inequalities in homeownership among younger generations and the drivers of differences in social mobility across regions.
