The data will be used to answer four specific questions relating to life event and housing moves (either by tenure or dwelling size): forming a couple, birth of first child, separation and divorce, widowhood. The aim is to look at LS members a) married or cohabitiing in 1991 and 2002 with no children in 1991 and one or more children in 2001 and their tenure in 1991 by tenure in 2001 and dwelling size in 1991 by size in 2001 b) LS members single and not cohabiting in 1991 and married or cohabiting in 2001 and their tenure etc. c) LS members married or cohabiting in 1991 and divorced and not cohabiting in 2001 by household status and tenure etc. d) LS members married in 1991 and widow or widower in 2001 by tenure etc.
The study aims to identify the key drivers of housing demand, particularly affordable housing, in order to inform the Housing Corporation about future investment. There are other secondary data analyses including by region; and primary fieldwork to focus particularly on aspirations. The research will explore the linkages between subsidised housing and the wider market. The aims are to understand how demographic. spatial and economic changes will impact on affordable housing demand now and in the future (over the next 5 /10 /20 years) and to use this understanding to inform key business and policy decisions and develop the Housing Corporation's market intelligence including viability of existing stock and future markets and options for potential new products.
