Early life and intergenerational transmission of health

(Project no. 1013430)

We use the Longitudinal Study to measure the intergenerational persistence of birth (birthweight) and later life health outcomes (cancer), namely the incidence of low birth weight over two generations from LS parents to children, and cancer.  Using years and birthplaces of parents' of LS members from the LS member's own birth registration, we will investigate the persistence of effects measured over paternal and maternal lineage as well as the impacts of grandmothers and grandfathers separately.  We will investigate the impact of changes to the provision and access of health care on the intergenerational persistence of low birth weight and explore the extent and direction of these impacts.
