Inequalities in the outcome of pregnancy

The wider DH project aimed to improve our ability to use routinely collected data to monitor inequalities in the outcome of pregnancy. It planned to do so firstly by making fuller use of the data currently collected to analyse and interpret changes over time and geographical variations and secondly by identifying improvements needed in the data collected and the ways measures are constructed.

The LS is able to distinguish couples in England, their country of birth and ethnicity. I wish to create a table of country of birth of partners born overseas against the ethnicity of their UK born partners by sex for England. This cannot be done with the level of detail required using the 2001 SARS.

This will help to identify the likely ethnicity of a group of mothers and fathers within the main ONS births file.
