Location decisions in response to school quality over the lifecycle

Simon Burgess, University of Bristol and Ellen Greaves, European University Institute

(Proect no. 2000809)

This project will study housing location decisions at different points across the life course, specifically in relation to local school quality. The project will estimate the demand for local school quality in comparison to other characteristics of the neighbourhood, at different ages and for different types of household. Through this estimation, a simul ation of the impact of alternative school admissions arrangements (for example a lottery rather than proximity admission rules) will be explored. This will show the contribution of school admission arrangements to neighbourhood and school segregation between groups with different socioeconomic status and ethnicity.
