Household type transitions after widowhood

This project will investigate the transitions between different types of household after widowhood, analyse how socio-economic and socio-demographic characteristics influence differences in household type transitions and undertake cross sequential comparisons.

The researchers' aim is to analyse the changes in the living arrangemants after widowhood. For this purpose, the project team will study the events of widowhoods and the transitions between different types of household after widowhood (i.e. the relationship of sample member to other people living in the household) at four census points (1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001). It will also analyse how health, socio-economic and socio-demographic characteristics influence differences in household type and household type transitions after widowhood and undertake cross sequential comparisons (for example, comparing changes between 1981 and 1991 with changes between 1991 and 2001) in order to inform predictions.

ONS LS data provides the variables that are needed and the four census points that are essential for making cross sequential comparions in the household transitions after widowhood.
