Families, households and health: projections and implications

Emily Grundy and Wei Xun, University of Essex

(Project no. 2002606)

For this project, we will analyse the impact of specific policy changes, comparing England and Wales (using the ONS LS) with Scotland (using the SLS), as well as the UK Household Longitudinal Study for both. Free personal care was introduced in Scotland in 2002, but not in England & Wales. We will investigate whether this difference was associated with a changing differential between E&W and Scotland in transitions to live with relatives or to institutional settings, and associations with subsequent health and mortality, and socioeconomic differences.
