Transitions into care and mortality among older people

James Robards and Andrew Hinde, University of Southampton

(Project no. 30146)

This project will contribute towards PhD research which is looking at family policy and the fertility of different groups in the UK population. The data requested will be used to calculate age specific fertility rates, total fertility rates and parity progression ratios for the overall population of England & Wales, ethnic minority groups and teenagers.

Aims of the study:

- to understand the main changes in fertility over the last 30-40 years in the UK and France.

- research family policy types and approaches.

- undertake a qualitative stage of research to enable the understanding of child-bearing and decision-making in the policy context.

Outputs from the longitudinal study will consist of cross tabulations allowing calculation of fertility rates and parity progression ratios.
