Mortality of immigrants and their descendants in two destination contexts: comparing E&W to Norway

Joseph Harrison, Hill Kulu, Katherine Keenan, Frank Sullivan, University of St Andrews

(Project no. 2004548)

Using the ONS LS, we will use a count data approach, comparing mortality differences between foreign-born populations, their descendants and native populations in E&W and in Norway (using Norwegian data). The methodology uses event-exposure occurrence tables for the two country contexts, appending them using Poisson regression to calculate mortality rates. The mortality rate of each group will be compared to a reference category, White British natives, allowing comparisons between groups, including the same origin groups in different contexts. Socioeconomic factors will be examined. Knowledge generated will benefit the public by identifying healthcare needs for particular groups in specific country welfare contexts.
