Correspondence X: Corrections for the Letters in French

A number of errors have been discovered in the letters written in French in this volume. Most of these errors are restricted to the mistranscription of particular characters and accents. It has, however, been decided to reproduce here corrected versions of the letters in full.

These letters present a number of difficulties. Many of them are written by non-native speakers, and contain considerable irregularities in spelling and grammar. These irregularities have been preserved. Where accents are indicated but not clearly identifiable, the correct accent has been used; where the incorrect accent is used it has been retained; and where accents are missing no attempt has been made to supply them. Letters from some French correspondents contain idiosyncrasies in the use of capital letters, and where this does not create unnecessary confusion the original capitalization has been preserved.
