UCL is a big place which is great because it means there are so many opportunities out there. But it can also mean opportunities can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. We have rounded up some ideas to help you get more involved in what happens at UCL.
Giving back to UCL
- Transition Mentor: help new students settle in by providing support and advice. Transition Mentors are usually recruited in Term 3 for the following academic year.
- Widening Participation Student Ambassador: support events and activities for young people from backgrounds that are underrepresented at university.
- Welcome Ambassador: help support events and services related to the welcome and induction of new UCL students.
- Many, many other Ambassador Programmes: keep an eye on UCL news and the Careers website for upcoming ambassador opportunities.
Shape UCL Education
- Student Academic Rep: represent the interests of other students to shape education at UCL.
- UCL ChangeMakers: opportunities, funding and support for students and staff who want to work together to enhance education & the student experience at UCL.
- Student Quality Reviewers: help to improve how the university works by providing detailed feedback and analysis from a student perspective
- Student Experience Panel: join the panel to receive opportunities to collaborate with us or share your ideas and feedback
STEM
UCL Institute of Making: a multidisciplinary research club and Makerspace, with a friendly and inclusive space offering an exciting range of tools and machinery for members to use. Their mission is to provide all makers with a creative home in which to innovate, contemplate and understand all aspects of materials
Hackathons: keep an eye out in the UCL student newsletter for the many Hackathons that are run throughout the year. They cover everything from innovative technology and to solving problems for some of the most pressing societal concerns.
Business, Leadership and Entrepreneurship
- Competitions and business challenges: with UCL Careers, win great prizes and even paid work experience with top companies by competing in 'games' and business challenges running across industries such as Marketing, Journalism, Financial Trading, Project Management and more!
- UCL Innovation & Enterprise: helping you boost your employability, create your own business or solve global problems.
- Laidlaw Scholarships: For first-year students only. Applications usually open between December and early Feb.
UCL Research
- Lunchtime Lectures: showcasing exceptional research taking place at UCL.
- UCL Minds: a programme of lectures, performances, exhibitions, podcasts, and stories, which showcase the brilliant and curious minds here at UCL.
Social Change
- UCL Grand Challenges: interdisciplinary research on matters of pressing societal concern.
- Sustainable UCL: courses, info, and opportunities to get involved in making sure sustainability is at the heart of what we do.
