Programme summaries

Provost's 2034 Leadership Programme (former Heads of Department Programme)

The Provost's 2034 Leadership Programme offers all new Deans, Heads of Department and Directors of Research Divisions with a suite of activities supportive of their new senior UCL leadership and management responsibilities. This includes developing and implementing strategic plans, leading and managing change, developing and leading people, meeting their financial responsibilities and communicating effectively with colleagues.

This training is by invitation only.

Senior Leadership Advancement Programme (former Future Leaders Programme)

The Senior Leadership Advancement Programme aims to enhance personal leadership capability so as to build organisational capacity for adaptive change, improve efficiency in times of diminishing resources and develop capability for working collaboratively to deliver effective outcomes in and through strategic partnerships. It consists of eight modules and includes action learning, executive coaching, a business critical project and a reflective journal. During the programme, participants will also be required to undertake pre-work and follow up activities to put the learning into practice whilst stretching traditional boundaries of leadership and engagement.

Senior Women in Leadership Advancement Programme (Grades 9 and 10)

The Senior Women in Leadership Advancement Programme aims to enhance personal leadership capability so as to build organisational capacity for adaptive change, improve efficiency in times of diminishing resources and develop capability for working collaboratively to deliver effective outcomes in and through strategic partnerships. It consists of eight-nine modules and includes action learning, executive coaching, a business critical project and a reflective journal. During the programme, participants will also be required to undertake pre-work and follow up activities to put the learning into practice whilst stretching traditional boundaries of leadership and engagement.

Women in Leadership Development Programme (Grades 6 - 8)

The new pilot Women in Leadership Development Programme aims to support the development of women in a more targeted way, with a specific goal of seeing all participants being in the best position to progress their careers at UCL. The programme is designed to empower women with the tools to build profile, confidence and awareness.  It centres around driving behaviour and culture change across UCL with a focus on gender equality, increasing collaboration, exploring career opportunities and building confidence, brand and profile. It consists of two modules and includes individual coaching (with 360 feedback) and peer group coaching. During the programme, participants will also be required to undertake pre-work and follow up activities over a 90 day period to reflect on the learning and apply the learning into practice.

Senior Leadership in Action

A three-day intensive and experiential leadership programme designed to strengthen senior leaders’ (Grades 9-10) self-awareness and leadership skills. The programme explores the concepts of leadership and followership and what these mean for working collaboratively and for developing teams within the UCL context. Each participant will have the opportunity to lead an observed exercise and will receive personalised feedback designed to aid their ongoing leadership development.

Leadership in Action

A three-day intensive and experiential leadership programme designed to prepare individuals (Grades 6-8) with little or no leadership experience to lead within their discipline or function and also across UCL. The programme explores the concept of leadership and will help build participants confidence and impact through taking part in a number of practical leadership activities and through receiving personalised feedback designed to aid their ongoing leadership development.

World Class Business Partnering Programme

An in-depth, modular, leadership programme designed to prepare UCL Business Partners to carry-out their role in a manner that delivers a high-performing service culture across UCL. The programme will empower Business Partners to embrace their role and will equip them with the skills and tools requied to delier an excellent service and to ge the best out of the Business Partnering model. Participants will also be encouraged to consider a framework for their ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

This pilot programme is exclusively for our HR Business Partners.

Self-Managing Leadership (blended) 

The Self Management Leadership (SML) provides a powerful framework for effectively aligning people and culture with purpse and strategy and addresses the ‘inside out’ dimensions of leadership. The 10-step model helps participants identify their purpose, values and vision in order to define the focus and character which defines their leadership. Each participant will receive 90-day action plan focused on the few things which will have the largest impact, for both personal and professional development.

World Class Manager (blended)

World Class Manager (WCM) is a management programme designed to provide new, aspiring and existing managers with the very best tools and techniques used by 1000’s of great leaders and managers around the world. WCM is an online programme consisting of 12 modules that can be accessed at anytime, anywhere and on any device. The programme comprises of videos, workbooks, assessments and reflection questions and is certified by the CPD.
