UCL Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching

The UCL Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT), based in Torrington Place, comprises a vibrant group of Principal and Senior Teaching Fellows and professional staff who are committed to:

  • ensuring that UCL offers the best possible quality of education for its students, by forging creative connections between its world-leading research and its teaching and learning at all levels of the curriculum, and by enabling students to learn through participating in research;
  • providing rich opportunities for all staff who teach, support students’ learning and/or are leaders of education to develop their academic, professional and leadership practices, and to gain appropriate qualifications and opportunities in so doing;
  • influencing and contributing to the higher education sector nationally and internationally in relation to the development of research-based higher education, academic practice and academic leadership.

We work closely with the Vice Provost for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Anthony Smith, and with academic and professional colleagues from across UCL. Together we are developing engaging, research-based approaches to education, in line with the high aspirations of the UCL 2034 strategy.

We showcase inspirational practice from across UCL and lead three major cross-UCL initiatives: Connected CurriculumUCL Arena and UCL ChangeMakers.

Staff, students and alumni from any subject area are warmly invited to get involved, for example by leading or coming to education-focused events or by contributing case studies of good practice. If you have a general enquiry or to find out more, sign up for our email updates at calt@ucl.ac.uk or follow us on Twitter at @UCLConnectedC@UCLArena and @UCLChangeMakers.
