Glossary - H

Head - the element in a phrase that is mainly responsible for the nature of that phrase (Trask, 116)

Headedness - whether a phrase is head-initial or head-final

Head-final - the head of the phrase is in final position.

Homonyms - words that sound the same, but mean something different ring / ring - ring around your finger / to ring someone up
bank / bank - financial institution / river bank.

Hypernym - see hyponymy.

Hyponymy - the meaning of one word is included in the meaning of another word. Hyponymy can be paraphrased by ‘a type of…’
carrot is a type of vegetable
table is a type of furniture
wortel is een soort groente
tafel is een soort meubel
vegetable is a hypernym of carrot, carrot a hyponym of vegetable.
