Finite verb - a verb that is inflected for tense and number he WORKED, they WAITED (from the infinitives ‘to work’ and ‘to wait’)

Functional phrases - a grammatical phrase that is only present because of functional reasons, as opposed to categorical phrases InflectionPhrase, Complementizer Phrase

Fricative - consonant produced by air flowing through a narrow opening in the oral cavity [f], [v], [s], [z] etc.
