Who am I?

About Jolanta

What was your experience of further or higher education like?

I went to university in Poland. It wasn’t long after Communism had fallen but before Poland had joined the EU, so politically it was a very exciting time. I was over the moon to be offered a place at university and it felt like suddenly a world of opportunities had opened up.

Who or what made the biggest positive effect on you when you were studying? And how did they support you?

I lived in student halls where I made many friends. We would meet each day to spend hours talking, having fun and revising together. It was a real community and felt totally supportive to be with people going through a similar experience to my own.

What working achievements or initiatives are you most proud of?

Being part of the current UCL Student Adviser team has been particularly rewarding. It is such a great initiative and I find it inspiring to speak with and support students.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Be kind to yourself, keep doing what you are doing and don’t over-worry about what others think.

What would it surprise people to know about you?

In my free time I love reading fantasy books about wizards, dragons and magic :)
