Change your degree programme or modules

This guidance explains how to change the modules you have chosen and how to change your degree programme.

This information is for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

You should first discuss any changes in registration with your personal tutor, postgraduate tutor or supervisor in your department. The department will discuss your options with you and help you make the right decision.

Applications must be made in advance of the effective date of change. Retrospective changes older than one month will not be approved.

You must read the academic regulations before requesting any changes to your academic record. Postgraduate students should also refer to the Handbook and Codes of Practice for Graduate Students.

Change of your degree programme

We can’t guaranteed that you will be able to transfer from your original degree programme to another. You must be able to satisfy the entrance requirements for your proposed new degree programme, a place must be available on it and it must be practical for you to complete the new degree programme satisfactorily.

You will not be eligible for consideration for the award of a degree until you have completed the prescribed period of study required and satisfied the examiners in the requisite number of modules/credits for your new degree programme as specified in the UCL Regulations for students.

You must have sufficient funding to complete your new programme of study.

Unless specifically stated it will be assumed that the change of degree programme will be effective from the start of the current session.

The normal deadline for change of degree programme during the session is 31 October.

To change your programme you must login to your Portico account and complete the online application under the 'C2RS Home' menu.

  • a change in study location
  • a change in the length of your programme (both shorter or longer)
  • you will complete a work placement

Change your modules

If you want to change any of your individual modules you should discuss this with your tutor and, if agreed, ask them to arrange for the module to be changed on your Portico record.

The deadline for module changes during the session is 6 December.
