Collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card

Once you arrive in the UK, you may need to collect your full student visa, known as a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

Your BRP is a secure ID card that holds your personal details and biometric information and is valid for the length of your programme at UCL.

The temporary visa in your passport is valid for 90 days from the date you wish to enter the UK. Once you have arrived in the UK, you must collect your full visa, your BRP, within 10 days of arrival.

Remember, you do not have to complete enrolment to collect your card.

If you were granted Digital Immigration Status, then you will not receive a BRP card.

Collecting your BRP from UCL

As part of the visa application process, you can choose to have your BRP sent to UCL.

Once we have received your BRP you will be sent an email called Biometric Residence Permit ready for collection – instructions.

The email will invite you to book a collection slot at a location on Bloomsbury Campus. It will also explain which documents you need to bring with you.

Collecting your BRP from a Post Office

If you have requested to collect your BRP from a Post Office your UKVI decision letter will confirm details of the Post Office from where you can collect your card.

Remember, the Post Office will not notify you when your card is ready to collect.

Contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team with your full name, UCL student number and date of birth and indicate that you wish for UCL to accompany you to the Post Office.

If you applied for a visa within the UK

You can arrange for your BRP to be sent to your UK address or to UCL.

If you are unsure of your BRP card collection location, please check your visa application. To check, you will need to log back into your application form.

Not sure where your BRP card is going? Contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team.
