How to obtain your BRP

Once you enter the UK you will be required to collect your full Student visa, called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

On this page you will find more information about:

Collecting your BRP from UCL

UCL is no longer be running face-to-face BRP collection appointments.  Therefore if you have used UCL’s BRP Alternative Collection Location code (2HE484) in your visa application, your BRP will instead be sent to your UK address.

To obtain your BRP once you have arrived in the UK, log into your Portico account and complete the BRP Postal Service Task.

In the task you will be asked to upload a copy of your stamped 90-day Travel Vignette (the sticker in your passport) and confirm your current UK address, email and phone number.  If you did not receive a stamp in your passport upon your arrival, you will need to also upload a copy of your flight boarding pass which clearly shows your name and the date you arrived in the UK.

Please note that your BRP will only be posted once you have confirmed your arrival in the UK and completed these steps. If you are living in shared accommodation, please also list your room and/or flat number. This will ensure that your BRP reaches you.

How your BRP will arrive will depend on whether your BRP is being held at UCL, or being sent to you directly by UKVI.

If your BRP is being held at UCL, your BRP will be sent to you via Royal Mail Special Delivery. BRPs will be dispatched on Wednesday afternoons. Your BRP should usually arrive within 2-3 working days of it being sent out.

If your BRP still needs to be printed by UKVI, they will do this and post it to the address that you have provided in UCL's BRP Postal Task. UKVI will use a courier service to send your BRP and will contact you directly with a tracking reference number.

If you have asked for your dependant(s) BRP(s) to be sent to UCL, please contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team so we can arrange for the BRP(s) to be sent you.

If you decided not to use UCL’s BRP Alternative Collection Location code, your BRP will be sent to the Post Office nearest to your UK address and details of this will be provided on your UKVI decision letter.  Please see further information below.

If you have any questions, please contact the Student Immigration Compliance Team via AskUCL.
