UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES)

Language Short Courses

We at SSEES are proud to offer an unparalleled range of short courses in Central and East European languages - some of which are not available for part-time study anywhere else in the UK.

COVID-19 Update

Our priority is the wellbeing and safety of our students and staff and so our range of language short course classes for terms 1 and 2 for the Academic Year 2020/2021 will be taught remotely. A decision for the third term, starting in May will be made when the ongoing Covid situation is clearer but priority will be given to continuing remotely if a majority of students in a class prefer this option.

Enrolment for Summer Term 2021 is now OPEN

We will be opened again for Summer in April for Term 3

Please see 'How To Enrol' for the enrolment form- this is for new students to the languages short course.

Please send the completed form to the Short Course Administator, Shelley-Anne Modeste.

For returning students, please contact Shelley-Anne Modeste for the online portal link.

In the event that you pay for a course that is already full you will be refunded but to be placed on the waiting list for any of the above courses email eveningcourses@ucl.ac.uk rather than applying online.

Our courses equip students to communicate with confidence in their chosen language of study. All four skills are taught - reading, writing, listening and speaking - with particular emphasis being placed on oral communication. Our courses present the language as it is spoken today in everyday situations, covering basic survival skills for beginners through to fluent discussions on contemporary issues for our more advanced students.

All of our teachers are either native speakers, or have native fluency in the languages they teach. Many of them teach on BA and MA courses here at UCL and at other universities. Our teachers are highly qualified and extremely popular with their students, creating a friendly, stimulating environment for language learning.

All courses take place at 6.30pm on weekday evenings on the Bloomsbury campus.
