As the year draws to a close and reflections on the student's successes throughout 2024 take place, staff within the Division of Surgery & Interventional Science (DSIS) were delighted to see so many achievements that extend beyond their academic commitments.

Emeritus Professor Irving Taylor of UCL Surgery & Interventional Science has been awarded a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to surgical oncology by BASO - The Association for Cancer Surgery.

Dr Darren Player, Associate Professor in Musculoskeletal Bioengineering, has been awarded a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering / Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship to advance his work on 3D Bioprinting.

The UCL Division of Surgery PRIME team has won first prize at the European Association of Urology 2023 in Milan.

Dr Veeru Kasivisvanathan, UCL Researcher and Urological Surgeon (UCLH), has been recognized by the European Association of Urology (EAU) with the Crystal Matula Award for his remarkable achievements in advancing prostate cancer research.

Dean of UCL's Faculty of Medical Sciences, Professor Mark Emberton has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2021 with an OBE for services to prostate cancer research.

Prostate cancer is usually diagnosed using a series of tests, often including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, not all prostate tumours are visible on MRI scans.

On 21st July the NeuroSAFE PROOF clinical research team conducted their first ever virtual Public & Patient Involvement (PPI) Session.

On the 20th January 2020 the Centre for 3D Models of Health and Disease was officially launched at Charles Bell House (UCL). We used this opportunity as a TCES Net meeting in order to tell collaborators in the community about our work.

We have added a new Postgraduate Certificate in Performing Arts Medicine. The PGCert will include four modules on Touring and Travel of the Performer, Performance Psychology, Assessment of the Professional Voice and Science of Music and Dance.
