Mediacentral Policy

The following information is the applicable policies for staff and students using the service. They relate to general UCL Policies regarding the using of ISD systems, please read carefully before use.

Mediacentral Retention Policy (in a nutshell)

  • Content on the Mediacentral system will be permanently deleted after seven (7) years, unless a written request is made to extend this.
  • Any content older than 24 months and not played within a 24 month period will become archived by the system.
  • Content will be archived for five (5) years and may only be recovered by the Educational Media team
  • Any content within the archive for more than five (5) years may be permanently deleted automatically, unless a written request to keep is made.
  • Any content that is republished to another service will have its clock reset to the start of the seven (7) year cycle
  • A request for a copy of personal content can be made at anytime. 
  • Anyone leaving UCL, should transfer the rights to ownership to anothe individual where this is considerd applicable. This especially relevant for departmental content created for general use.
  • Where a UCL system user leaves and does not transfer ownership, any departmental content will be deemed to be under the ownership of the Head of Department

Please note that use of this service is covered by UCL's privacy policies, to be found below:

Support of the Mediacentral service requires at times the use of confidence monitoring. This enables authorised support teams to ensure that uploads and playback of your media is working as expected.  There are also random checks on uploaded media to ensure copyright infringements are not being created. This work is undertaken as part standard support ISD processes to ensure effective operation of the Mediacentral system and complies with the following UCL policies
