Sharing recordings in Zoom

Sharing recordings in Zoom can be done in multiple different ways and how you do this will depend on a number of factors. The main use cases are outlined below.

You should ensure that when you share a recording, you are doing so in line with what users were informed at the time of the recording taking place. For example, if users were informed that the recording would only be shared internally, it should not be made available to external audiences.

Examples of types of recordings are:

  • a teaching event to be shared with UCL students
  • a meeting to be shared with internal or external attendees
  • a Zoom recording to be shared with staff, students or the general public.

A teaching event to be shared with UCL students

Note that from 4 August 2023 recordings will no longer be automatically copied from Zoom to Lecturecast unless you opt in to this service.

Zoom is integrated with Lecturecast meaning that if you are the Zoom meeting host you can opt in to have recordings copied to your Lecturecast Library.  From here, the recording can be published to students via Moodle. For a step by step guide how to opt in to this service, please see the Lecturecast Resource Centre

Please note that you should not upload teaching content which will be accessed via Moodle on to Mediacentral, as this is not supported and the student experience may not be as expected.

A meeting to be shared with internal or external attendees

Your meeting recording can be shared directly from Zoom. See our how to guide on sharing recordings from Zoom for instructions on how to do this.

A Zoom recording to be shared with staff, students or the general public

If you have a recording that you wish to share to a wider audience including the general public, you can download your recording from Zoom and upload it to Mediacentral. From Mediacentral you can make the video public and embed this on your website or in social media. For more information on working with videos in Mediacentral, see the Mediacentral website, or contact the team.

Using Mediacentral is preferable to using a public service such as YouTube or Vimeo as UCL retains control of the content.
