- UCL Special Collections comprise manuscripts, archives and rare books. The collections cover a wide range of subject areas, with particular strengths in language, literature, small-press publishing, Politics, History of Science, Mathematics, Hebraica and Judaica, History of Education, and the history of UCL. Use the Special Collections subject guides to identify relevant collections for your discipline.
Support for your research
Research support and open access
UCL Library Services provides support for open access publishing, managing research data and understanding bibliometrics. It also provides support, training, events and community resources for researchers throughout the year in conjunction with the Office for Open Science & Scholarship.
Open Access
- Open Access for REF: once you start publishing at UCL, you must record and upload all new publications in UCL’s Research Publication Service (RPS), so that they can be made open access in UCL Discovery.
- Open access funding: check whether funding or a transformative agreement is available for you to publish Gold open access.
- Understand the UKRI, Wellcome and other funders' open access requirements.
Open Science & Scholarship
- The UCL Office for Open Science & Scholarship was launched to support the UCL community in understanding and embracing all aspects of Open, not just Open Access.
- Citizen Science projects at UCL: Get support and find out more.
- Managing your Research Data: get support and submit your Data Management Plans to the team for feedback.
- Bibliometrics: Using metrics and bibliometrics responsibly.

- LibrarySkills@UCL offers a wealth of online guidance to support you in refining your library research skills in finding, evaluating, managing and using information.
- Scheduled programme of training sessions.
- Individual support from your specialist librarian or library to support your research.
Support for your teaching
Dedicated subject support
Each department at UCL has a dedicated Subject Liaison Librarian or Site Library Team.
- Learn how your Subject Liaison Librarian or Site Library team can support you: find out how they work with staff in faculties and departments as well as when, and how, to get in touch with them.
- Find a librarian or library team: find contact information for the Subject Liaison Librarian, or Site Library Team, supporting your department.
- Request a library induction or course embedded library skills training for your students in areas such as literature searching, referencing and reference management.
Special Collections

Reading Lists@UCL
