30 October 2023

Are you interested in a career in the creative industries? The Trellis Young Producers Programme is a paid opportunity to support artists and develop your skills.

The Trellis Young Producers programme will be delivered by Future Formed and the Trellis team who are part of the wider Cultural & Community Engagement team at UCL East.

Who is it for?

Are you keen to work in museums, galleries, community engagement, publishing or media? Or perhaps you have skills in photography, film, editing, audio, writing, drawing and design that you would like to develop? We are open to other creative practices and skills if you think you could gain something from taking part.

We are looking for six people aged 18 – 30 based in Waltham Forest, Hackney, Tower Hamlets or Newham who are keen to break into or beginning to access the creative industries. Priority will be given to those who are underrepresented in the creative industries and to those who are based in Waltham Forest.

When applying, you should:

  • Demonstrate an interest in developing your creative practice through Trellis.

  • Evidence your experience of working in the creative industries. This does not need to be paid experience.

  • Be able to describe how this opportunity will benefit you.

  • Show passion for and engagement with creative industries.

What is Trellis?

Trellis is an art commissioning programme that brings together artists, UCL researchers and east London communities to collaborate, create new knowledge, ideas and the potential for change or action. The outcome is an exhibition in Spring 2024 that will consist of six art installations created in collaboration between the six partnerships of artists, UCL researchers and east London communities.

This year’s Trellis partnerships are:

You can read more about each Trellis project on our website.

The brief

We are looking for a small group of young producers to engage with the Trellis projects and produce a physical record for the exhibition in Spring 2024. We want you to document the narratives and processes leading up to the Trellis exhibition. We also want to see younger audiences engage with what you produce and with the Trellis exhibition itself. You have creative agency over how you go about this, providing the opportunity to develop your creative skillset as a producer or an artist.

Key information

  • You will be paired with one of the six Trellis partnerships who are working towards their exhibition in March 2024. You will work with artists, community groups and researchers and document the process. This documentation will be part of the exhibition itself so this opportunity will develop both your skills as a producer and a creative.

  • In your cohort, you will take part in workshops from creative professionals to develop ideas and learn from a range of creative organisations and people.

  • You will be paid London Living Wage for your time (£13.15 per hour). You will be expected to work a total of 20 – 25 days between January – March / April 2024.

  • An introductory session will be held at UCL East on Monday 11 December 10:30am – 1:30pm. Please let us know in your application if you are available then.
