What to do in a crisis: postcards detail steps to take in a mental health emergency

16 January 2019

Quick reference postcards from UCL Student Support and Wellbeing available for all staff: have you got yours?

postcard to help staff support student mental health

A postcards detailing the steps to take if a student is in crisis are now available for staff to keep at their desks and on noticeboards.

The postcard is designed to help staff choose the most appropriate actions to take in a mental health emergency, which should be taken as seriously as a physical health emergency.

UCL Student Support and Wellbeing has begun distributing the postcards via departmental teaching managers.

As well as crisis guidance, the postcards direct staff towards the new guide for UCL staff: Supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing.

The guide includes advice on talking about mental health and wellbeing with students, signposting the support available and referring a ‘Student of Concern’. A print version of the full guide is currently in production, and will be available later this term.

If you would like to order postcards for your team please contact teaching.learning@ucl.ac.uk.
