Go Abroad Week- November 2021 

This year, the UCL Study Abroad team curated an exciting week of online and in-person events for undergraduate students interested in studying abroad in the 2022/23 academic year. Our Go Abroad Week took place between 15-19 November and you can catch up on recordings of some of our events below. 

Monday 15 November 

Semester and Year-Long exchange Info Session

If you are eligible to study abroad for a semester or year in 22/23 as part of your degree programme, we invite you to catch up on the recording of this session to find out more about the options available to you, how to apply for your preferred universities and what to consider when thinking about where to study abroad.

Partner University Presentation: University of Wisconsin-Madison

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who hosted an interactive information session for students interested in studying abroad there. UW-Madison is one of the largest and most respected universities in the United States, with a population of more than 40,000 students. As the flagship campus of Wisconsin's public university system, UW-Madison has deep connections with its home state, but also a proud tradition of thinking and acting globally. Few institutions anywhere are more widely recognized as leaders in research, teaching, and public service. Often cited as one of the most picturesque university settings in the country, the campus is strikingly cosmopolitan. Students attend from every state in the nation and more than 120 countries. The university extends welcome to people of all backgrounds and cultures.

As the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an exchange partner for the UCL Faculty of Engineering, this event was geared towards students in the Faculty of Engineering who are eligible to apply for a 2022-23 year-long exchange placement.

Tuesday 16 November  

Partner University Presentation: National University of Singapore

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the National University of Singapore, who hosted an interactive information session for students interested in studying abroad there. A leading global university centred in Asia, NUS was founded in 1905 as a modest medical college with 23 students. Today, Singapore’s flagship university spans across three campuses in Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram, and is widely seen as among the best universities in Asia and the world. NUS offers a distinctively Asian and global experience that is grounded in maximising the potential of students and their future-readiness. Incoming exchange students can take a variety of cross-disciplinary modules from Engineering & Technology to Southeast Asian languages and cultures. Over 38,000 students from 100 countries enrich our community with their diverse social and cultural perspectives.

Gotoco info Session

Gotoco is a social enterprise aiming to improve cross-cultural understanding. The organisation looks to foster an inclusive global community through accessible international cultural exchange and educational projects in China. They also aim to boost opportunities for quality English learning in China, and help students from around the world learn about China firsthand. Global Alumni Panel Event

Hosted by Dr Karen Edge from the Institute of Education, the Global Alumni Panel Event brought together a group of alumni to discuss their international experiences and how those experiences have shaped them personally and professionally.

Wednesday 17 November 

Funding your Study Abroad Experience

During this session, we dicussed the tuition fee structure for the semester and year-long study abroad programme and sources of funding for both longer and short-term opportunities. Catch up on the recording below to hear more about funding available the Turing and Erasmus+ schemes and the funding available through them as well as our short-term bursaries

Partner University Presentation: Universidad de San Andrés

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina to host an interactive information session on life as an exchange student in Argentina!

Universidad de San Andrés has been providing students with real intercultural experiences for over a decade. Combining high academic excellence with all the excitement that a big city like Buenos Aires has to offer, their Study Abroad Programs are the perfect combination for young people who are eager for knowledge, social activity and cultural immersion. 

As the Universidad de San Andrés is an exchange partner for SELCS and ISPS, this event was geared towards students in the SELCS or ISPS department who are eligible to apply for a 22-23 year-long exchange placement.

Raleigh International Info Session

Raleigh International is a youth-driven organisation supporting a global movement of young people to take action that creates solutions to the world’s most urgent problems.

Raleigh empower young people with the skills, experience, and connections to be leaders of change. One of the ways they do this is through Raleigh Expedition, an international volunteering programme for 17-24 year olds from around the world.

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the University of Waterloo in Canada for an interactive information session.
