Who am I?

About Clara

What was your experience of further or higher education like?

My experience of higher education was both very scary and incredibly exciting.  I transferred institutions part way through my degree which meant I was new when everyone else already knew each other.  It took me a long time to feel like I belonged and settle in, but I have great memories of the people I studied with and learnt from.

Who or what made the biggest positive impact on you when you were studying? And how did they support you?

My father.  He was an academic himself, and when I got stressed and anxious he always knew the right things to say to me to help me cope and give me confidence.  With his experience of higher education and teaching he was able to help me understand what was being asked and expected of me.  I still repeat some of his words when I work with students now.

What working achievements or initiatives are you most proud of?

My most proud achievements are that some of the students I have supported acknowledged me in their final thesis.  It was a lovely acknowledgement of the positive impact I'd had on their experience at university.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Try to enjoy today and not always be worrying about tomorrow.  I still tell myself that every day!

What would it surprise people to know about you?

I'm a twin.  My brother and I were the only vegetarians in our school when we were children!
