If you have the option of applying to one or more of the universities listed below, please refer to the additional notes below to help guide your research.
A note on Canadian universities in 2025-26
In January 2024, the Canadian government introduced caps on the number of Study Permits available to incoming international students at certain higher education providers, as a means of regulating student numbers. Although UCL students abroad in Canada this year (2024-25) have been largely unaffected and able to proceed with their placements as planned, our Canadian partners are still working to confirm that exchange students will be exempt from the caps going forward. This means that there is a small chance that we may have to allocate fewer spaces at Canadian universities or have to withdraw spaces at short notice; we are however hopeful, based on this year, that placements will be unaffected in 2025-26. For those allocated an exchange space in Canada, we will keep in regular contact with any updates on Study Permit changes in the coming months as we receive them from our partners.
Australia: University of Sydney
For departments where it is included as an option, the University of Sydney is classed an 'Ultra High Demand' university. Applicants should be advised that for 2025-26 exchange, UCL only has 1 exchange place in total at the University of Sydney, so we expect an unprecendented level of demand for this university this year. Please be particularly mindful of this when selecting your 4 chosen universities and we have advised Study Abroad Tutors to only approve one student per department to include the University of Sydney in their application.
USA: University of California
If you plan to include University of California in your Part 1 application, please take the time to carefully read and fully understand our
The University of California is a unique exchange. If you are considering including the University of California in your application to us, please take note! Those offered a space by us will be required to complete a second application, made directly to University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) team in early 2025 to determine your campus allocation- California has 9 fantastic undergraduate campuses, offering different areas of study. UCEAP make campus decisions based on your area of study and motivation and their decision is final. For this reason, we can offer no guarantee of the campus that you will be allocated and applicants should therefore approach the exchage with an open mind.
Successful students will be required to attend a mandatory meeting with the Study Abroad Team in early 2025 before submitting their campus allocation application to UCEAP, to discuss suitable campuses.
Canada: University of British Columbia
The University of British Columbia welcomes exchange students at both their Vancouver and Okanagan campus. If the University of British Columbia is an option for you, you'll see that the campuses are listed separately (some departments may only have the option of one campus based on areas of study available) in the Options Guide. Please be advised that you will only be able to select one, and not both of the campuses in your four university choices to us.
Canada: University of Toronto: St George, Scarborough and Mississauga campuses
The University of Toronto accepts exchange students at all 3 campuses:
- St George Campus
- Scarborough Campus
- Mississauga Campus
In your application, please select the specific campus (or campuses, if you wish to include more than one) you'd like to be considered for, paying particular attention to the level of demand at each and ensuring that you have undertaken thorough reasearch into the courses available. Each campus that you select in your application will count as one of your four university choices.
Australia: Flinders University
Students who are allocated a space at Flinders University will be considered for a prestigious scholarship offered by the university, with further information provided to successful applicants in Spring 2025.
Jordan: University of Petra
PLEASE NOTE UCL may withdraw exchanges without consulting students, even if your exchange application has been successful, if we determine in our absolute discretion that travelling to and undertaking an exchange in the host country might not be safe for our students. For this reason, we may decide to withdraw or cancel exchange at the University of Petra in 2025-26.
