The SEC Green Team has been awarded the Gold Sustainable Green Impact
31 July 2023
We are very pleased to have recently achieved the Gold Sustainable Green Impact Award (again).
Who we are
We have 3 green champions, currently Emily, Louise and Aki, and alongside the rest of the team, we continue to strive to improve our green credentials.
Introduction
The Green team ensures that sustainability is embedded as much as possible in our day-to-day operations, encouraging the team to engage in sustainable practices inside and outside of our work. We meet regularly to discuss updates or ideas for interactive activities or improvements, to raise sustainability-awareness and create a cultural norm to operate in the most sustainable way.
We are very pleased to have recently achieved the Gold Sustainable Green Impact Award (again)!
Our interactive activities and commitments
However small the commitments are, we believe that collective effort is important in making an impact.
- We produce a seasonal SEC green newsletter and include pictures from the team, a recipe provided by a team member, an environmental article and updates of events and useful tips and information. Here is an example of one our green newsletter articles.
We had a seed planting activity and a couple of the plants were placed in the planters on the 4th floor of the Student Centre – see how well they are doing in this picture of Emily with the sunflower and cornflowers. We are introducing more plants in the office and front area to help with wellbeing for us and our students.
- Reclaimed/upcycled stools are being used in our enquiry space to make it more welcoming and comfortable.
- We have reduced 534,838.88g CO2e footprint by enhancing the digital options of self-service documents from Portico over the period between September 2022 - April 2023. (excluding the digital footprint).
- We use re-usable cups and water bottles wherever possible.
- Lights, computers, printers are switched off when not in use.
- The team regularly have a digital clean-up (deleting unwanted emails and updates).
- We have office plants called Bob and Brie, who work hard to purify the air and reduce the stresses of the team.
We will continue to improve sustainability in our capacity, please speak to any of us if you have any idea of making our services more sustainable!
