Module selection

Once you are pre-enrolled or fully enrolled you will be invited to select your module preferences via Portico under My Studies.

Module selection opens from 9 September, and you need to submit your selections by 11 October.

Starting module selection 

1. You will receive an email with the subject line ‘UCL Module Selection’ inviting you to start the process and directing you to our new student module selection webpage. 
2. Read your department's guidance about choosing modules, and the information on Portico. 
3. Take time to consider your options. You can talk to your personal tutor about your interests and aspirations as well.  Check our guidance on selecting modules. 
4. Use the module catalogue to make sure you are eligible and if there are any restrictions. 
5. Check for any timetable clashes prior to submitting your choices. Consider module location too - make sure you have sufficient time to travel between campuses. 
6. Submit your preferred modules via Portio by the deadline.  

After submitting your preferences  

Once the selection deadline has passed, we’ll be working hard to review your modules in the coming weeks.  

You’ll be able to check module status’ in Portico under ‘My Studies’ but we will email you once your selections are approved.

It’s not always possible for students to get their first-choice modules.

If you are declined from a module selection, you will receive an email and you will need to select an alternative module on Portico.
