  • Non-EU students: Passport and valid visa  (including BRP)
  • EU students: National ID card or passport

Letter from UCL

  • Bank Account Letter addressed specifically to Halifax Bank which also confirms your permanent (home) address and your term-time address. You need to request this from the Student Centre.


  • You will be offered a Reward Account
  • You can withdraw cash and use the card to pay in shops/restaurants and online
  • You can set up a direct debit
  • Online and telephone banking
  • You can opt in and out of receiving bank statements
  • There is no monthly fee associated with this account


  • It is quicker to set up your account if you complete the first section of your application online.
  • Once you have completed the online application, print the confirmation and take it to Halifax with your passport/visa and Bank Account Letter. They should be able to complete your account set up then and you should not require an additional appointment.
  • Alternatively, you can visit the branch to make an appointment to set up your account in person. Bring your documents with you so they can check them. You will need to visit the branch once to make the appointment, and then a second time to attend your appointment.
