About the Faculty

Encompassing the logical, experimental and mathematical study of our universe, UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences consists of departments highly rated for research excellence.

The faculty also provides a base for a number of research centres and institutes: these facilitate in-depth and interdisciplinary research through collaboration between experts within MAPS, and in related areas in Engineering Sciences and Life Sciences.

The faculty is focused not only on nurturing excellence in discipline-based research, but in enhancing cross-disciplinary exchanges and increasing our impact on society.

Administrative structure

Administrative structure

The faculty office, headed by the Dean and the Director of Operations, carries out the central governance, administration and strategic direction of the faculty. It also runs the Natural Sciences Degree, the faculty's cross-departmental undergraduate programme.

The Faculty recognises excellence among students and staff through a number of prizes: the Faculty Medal, the Dean's List, the Jackson Lewis Scholarship, Faculty Undergraduate Scholarship for Excellence, the Faculty Postgraduate Prize and Faculty teaching awards.

Visiting Fellowship Scheme

Visiting Fellowship Scheme

The Visiting Fellows are from the UK and abroad to visit 6 MAPS Departments for periods of one month, this academic year coordinated by Ofer Lahav, Vice-Dean International aims to develop ongoing and new collaborations and ideas. We expect there will be further rounds of this scheme in the next academic year.
