Language Learning

Syllabus Type > Task Based (Process-based approach)

The main purpose of task-based teaching is the performance of a realistic task, i.e. a task you might perform in real life, for example organising a day out with the family, buying shoes, filling in a form. It differs from a situational syllabus in that the main goal is performing the task, rather than explicit language learning, even though the tasks are set up in such a way that students will learn language as they go along. The learning path, however, is not pre-defined, it depends on how the task is tackled. Tasks are often cross-curricular and aid the development of transferable skills that go beyond mere language skills. Such skills could be reasoning, problem-solving or communicating.
