Resources > Editing and cutting with iMovie

(iMovie comes with Mac OSX)

- Open the program by clicking on the black and gold star icon on the Mac desktop.
- Click File > Import Movies > [find and select your file]
- Before you import select Create new Event and insert a name. Also select ‘copy files’ so a copy of your ripped file is left on the desktop. Then click Import.
- [The import takes a while.]
- Thumbnails of the video file are created which are visible in the lower screen of the program window.
- Create a new Project in the Project Library by clicking on File > New Project > [give it a name]
- In the thumbnails select the sequences of the thumbnails you want to make a clip of. To select keep the mouse button pressed while you move the mouse over the thumbnails.
- Click Edit > Copy > [Then click in upper screen of the program window] and click Edit > Paste. You can add additional footage or cut frames off in the upper screen as well, it requires a bit of dexterity, though.
- You can always play the clip by clicking the spacebar (to stop press spacebar again).
- When you are happy with your selection in the upper screen, you can make one clip of it.
- To produce the clip go to iMovie’s upper menu and click Share > Export Movie > [For use in the classroom select Large]
- If you like, rename the clip in the Export window and choose where you want to store the video clip. Then click Export.
- The clip can now be played in iTunes, QuickTime player and VLC.
