I spent the fall semester of 2018 as a study abroad student at UCL.

Since the University of St. Gallen, my home university in Switzerland, is not in a partnership with UCL I had to organize the study abroad semester by myself.

One of the main reasons I really enjoyed my semester here in London is UCL’s approach to teaching. All my courses were fairly small and lectures were therefore very interactive. Most of the coursework was also spread out through the whole term and not packed into a short exam period as I was used to from Switzerland. Nevertheless, I experienced the difficulty level of my 3rd year modules at UCL to be slightly lower than back home.

Another positive aspect of UCL is its international environment. I spent the first two years of my bachelor degree in a fairly small city in Switzerland. Coming to London was therefore a big change for me. Since UCL’s main campus is placed in central London, one of the biggest and most influential cities in the world, you are basically right in the centre of action. And secondly, UCL itself is very diverse in its culture and its student body.

Overall, I can say that I really enjoyed my study abroad semester at UCL.
