New Starters

Welcome to UCL!! Below is a 6 step guide to general Induction processes for all UCL staff.

  1. First and foremost, to find your way around please check out UCL Maps. This also has a useful routefinder for planning routes within UCL and also to or from UCL from other locations in the Bloomsbury area.
  2. You will receive a UCL computer account with a UCL username and password from UCL Information Services Division (ISD). You can use this to to log into various UCL online systems including email.
  3. Visit the UCL New Starters page to ensure that you complete all Induction activities. There is lots of other general information available through the New Starters page about payroll and pensions, accessing your salary and other personal information through MyView, opening a bank account and many other resources for staff. Also, check out the Staff Benefits for a range of discounts and other schemes available to staff.
  4. As part of your Induction, you must also complete the UCL fire safety and UCL safety induction on your first day. You will also need to complete a local safety induction in your own department.
  5. You will need to set up your email fairly soon upon starting - it is recommended to use Outlook as this software is supported best by ISD, although it is possible to use other email clients such as Thunderbird etc. You can also access your email online away from UCL through the Outlook Web app. There is considerable information for new starters about this and various other IT resources and facilities available at UCL on the ISD New Staff pages.
  6. In addition, all staff must particpate in 3 learning events per year and there is a list of UCL courses available for staff on the Organisation and Staff Development (OSD) pages. Such training usually gets added automatically to your Training Record, but you can manually enter details of external training here as well.
