The Bartlett is the UK’s largest multidisciplinary faculty of the built environment. Our vision is a world where everything that’s built aims to add to the well-being of people and the environment.
With architecture and planning alongside disciplines such as energy, sustainability, public purpose and prosperity, our Schools, Institutes and Centres are able to share perspectives in a way unlike any other faculty at any other university. And being in London, an inspirational global city steeped in history and resources, we’re proud to partner with leading institutions from industry, government and beyond.
The Bartlett offers an exceptional range of study and research resources, technical facilities, and opportunities for collaboration. We hold an extensive range of events throughout the year in subjects across the whole faculty. Studying at The Bartlett is a wonderful opportunity to expand your thinking, and engage with experts in your field.
Which postgraduate programme is right for you?
- MA, MSc, MASc and MPA
MA, MSc, MASc and MPA programmes are usually tutor-led. They allow you to expand your knowledge in a particular area and provide you with the skills and expertise to pursue further study and develop professionally.
Courses can be delivered by different methods, such as lectures, seminars, workshops, case studies, placements and field trips, and you should expect to carry out your own research, write essays and take part in individual and group project work.
Your performance will be assessed through course work and examinations, along with an individual dissertation undertaken during the summer on a subject of your choice.
- MArch and MLA
MArch (Master of Architecture) programmes provide students with the opportunity to carry out advanced study in architecture. One programme, MArch Architecture, requires students to have completed a first degree in architecture, but the others are open to students from a range of disciplines.
All MArch programmes have a strong emphasis on design and visual representation, so a background in a related (design/visually-orientated) field will be an advantage.
The MLA (Master of Landscape Architecture) is a specific two-year programme for applicants from a related field of study who wish to specialise in landscape design.
The MRes programmes at The Bartlett provide structured and progressive research training, and are a strong foundation for doctoral study or careers in industry and the public sector.
Training in research techniques, combined with subject specific modules, will support your in-depth study, and the significant research components of an MRes programme will allow you greater freedom to explore and develop your field of study than is normally possible with an MSc.
