Funding your study at the Institute for Global Prosperity

There are a range of different funding and scholarship options available to students wishing to studying at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity.

Postgraduate taught (Master's)

From both our university and external funders, there are many scholarship and funding opportunities available for students wishing to undertake a master’s degree at UCL Institute for Global Prosperity. IGP Equity Fund

At the Institute for Global Prosperity, we educate the problem solvers of the future. Our degrees equip ambitious, entrepreneurial students with new approaches to prosperity, helping them to become future transition leaders. We are now offering two partial scholarships to enable UK students from under-represented backgrounds to pursue their Masters studies at the Institute.
Key information and eligibility

Value: £5000 towards tuition fees
Available to: Prospective students
Selection criteria: Educational, personal and financial circumstances
Eligible students: UK domiciled with home fee status
Deadline: 11.59pm (BST), 30 June 2024

Eligible candidates must:
1) Be domiciled in the UK with home fee status;
2) Hold an offer of admission to study on one of the below IGP postgraduate programmes*:

3) And meet the additional criteria below:

  • be from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background;**

* IGP Scholarship cannot be deferred, those awarded will need to take up their offer of study in the stated academic year in order to receive the scholarship.
** We define Minority Ethnic background as those of a non-white heritage and individuals of mixed-heritage who self-identify as also coming from a Minority Ethnic background.

Two awards are available for the academic year 2024-25.

UCL India Excellence Scholarship

The UCL India Excellence Scholarship aims to enable and encourage Indian students with an outstanding academic record to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL.

The Bartlett Promise UK Master's Scholarship

This scholarship aims to enable UK students from backgrounds underrepresented in the UCL Institute for Global Proserity's faculty, The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, to pursue master's studies.

Scholarship application window: 1 March to 31 May 2024 | Please note: to be eligible for The Bartlett Promise Master’s Scholarship, candidates must have an offer of admission to a Bartlett master’s course.

The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship

This scholarship is open to applicants who are nationals and residents of Sub-Saharan African countries who have admission to a master’s programme in our faculty, The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment.

Scholarship application window: 15 February to 3 April 2024 | Please note: to be eligible for The Bartlett Promise Sub Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship, candidates must have an offer of a place on a Bartlett master’s course.

UCL Global Masters Scholarship

The UCL Global Masters Scholarship aims to enable and encourage international students from lower income backgrounds to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL.

UCL East London Scholarship

The UCL East London Scholarship works to support the ambitions of east Londoners by funding the fees and living costs of eligible Master's programmes at UCL. Applicants to both the Prosperity, People and Planet MSc and Prosperity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship MSc are eligible for this scholarship.

UCL Masters Bursary

UCL's Masters Bursary aims to enable and encourage those from low-income backgrounds, who have gained a UCL undergraduate degree, to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL.

Chevening Scholarship

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding scholars with leadership potential. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree.

Applications are closed for 2024/25 entry.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme

The aim of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS) is to assist students from developing Commonwealth countries who are of excellent academic calibre but for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the United Kingdom. The scheme allows them to benefit from postgraduate study at a university in the United Kingdom which will help them to contribute toward the development of their home countries.

This award is only available to students applying to our Prosperity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship MSc.

Postgraduate research (MPhil/PhD)

Are you looking for a funded PhD opportunity at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity? There are several different options you can pursue to find funding. We have selected a few below, or you can find out more on the UCL funding for students on postgraduate research courses webpage.

UCL Research Excellence Scholarship

UCL’s Research Excellence Scholarship (UCL-RES) is our new prestigious scholarship which aims to attract outstanding scholars to undertake doctoral research at UCL. We are offering up to 40 fully funded UCL Research Excellence Scholarships (RES) to exceptional applicants from any country. Both prospective and current UCL doctoral students can apply.

UCL Research Opportunity Scholarship

UCL's Research Opportunity Scholarship (UCL-ROS) supports BAME postgraduate research degree students. Run with the Windsor Fellowship, this scheme offers full financial support and a skills development programme, both designed to promote academia as a more attractive career option.

Science, Technology, Prosperity and Innovation pathway

The pathway is highly interdisciplinary, spanning social and natural sciences, arts and humanities, and engineering. The departments that contribute to the pathway all seek to solve global, real-world challenges and problems and to design new context-specific modes of governance. The pathway addresses the ESRC politics and governance priority, interacts with multiple UBEL pathways and groups and has extensive international partnerships.

Key information and eligibility

Funding is available for the following programmes of study at IGP, commencing in October 2024:

A 1+3 structure that includes a MSc in Global Prosperity degree with appropriate methods training to support doctoral studies, plus a dissertation designed to consolidate students’ learning and provide the opportunity to pilot a PhD project.

A +3 structure, which will be offered on a case-by-case basis where applicants are able to provide evidence of previous qualifications demonstrating the skills covered in the core modules of the MSc programme.

The Bartlett Promise PhD Scholarship

The Bartlett Promise aims to enable students from backgrounds underrepresented in The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment to pursue a PhD at The Bartlett. 

Applications for the 2024/25 academic year will open on 1 February 2024.

IGP Social Macroeconomics Scholarship 

The scholarship is part of a new Social Macroeconomics PhD scheme which aims to advance research on new approaches to the economy and development of a new economic paradigm. The scheme is part of the Global Prosperity MPhil/PhD programme and we are offering one fully funded scholarship (tuition fees only).
