Construction works

Updates on construction works impacting UCL Halls will be published on this web page as and when they become available to the UCL Accommodation team.

Last Updated

17, January 2024

London is a global, vibrant city and development is inevitable. The scarcity and spiralling cost of property in the capital makes it impossible for UCL to re-house those who may be temporarily affected by building works in the area.

For this reason, we are taking all steps to reduce the impact of all building works, but some noise and disruption to those living in UCL accommodation will at times, be inevitable. You will find any scheduled works that may disrupt the halls below.

Astor College

There are currently major construction works taking place behind Astor College. The works will continue during the 2023-24 academic year.

Beaumont Court (run by Unite Students)

From January-December 2024 there will be building works to the external facade of this property between 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday. Noisy works are scheduled only between the hours of 9am-5pm. There will be no work on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays. During the works you may experience some reduced light to your room. We will communicate project updates directly by email throughout the process, including regularly scheduled in person drop-in sessions.

Construction work will be taking place on the Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity site until 2027. The construction works take place between 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday and 8am-1pm on Saturdays. There will be no work happening on Sundays or public holidays. Occasionally there will be vehicles arriving on the construction site before 8am, however, residents will receive advance notice of this activity.

Frances Gardner House

Eastman Dental site

Major construction work on the Eastman Dental site adjacent to Frances Gardner House will take place from July 2020 until May 2024 with working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-1pm.

Although vehicle and pedestrian access will be managed and controlled in between Langton Close gate entrance and the entrance to the construction site during working hours, we do ask you to continue to be aware of your surroundings when accessing your hall at any time.

During working hours there may be additional noise, but this will be monitored by the contractors throughout the day by sensors. Hoarding and barriers will also be installed at points around the site as safety measures but will increase privacy for residents whilst the contractors are working.

We will be liaising directly with the contractors on a regular basis to ensure that we have up to date information and are aware of any major works that are likely to cause residents disruption.

A one-way system is operating for all residents of Frances Gardner House, with residents having to enter and exit the building via Langton Close.

Occasionally contractors have early deliveries at 7am. These are rare and kept to a minimum.

Stapleton House (run by Unite Students)

Light refurbishment works are planned for some of the common spaces during the 2023-24 academic year. Although these will not impact student bedrooms or kitchens and should generate little noise, they will impact the amount of common space available to use whilst the project is underway.

During the 2024-25 academic year, there will be works to the external facade of this property between 8am and 6pm, from Monday to Friday. You will hear noise disruption during working hours, and experience some reduced light to your room at times. Unite will communicate notice of works ahead of them starting and update residents throughout the process. The Hall Team will hold face to face drop in sessions for residents throughout the year. Works are scheduled from January 2025 to November 2025.

Urbannest King's Cross
