UCL 'pushes the button' on new campus

18 September 2023

Our UCL East campus has been officially opened in celebrations with students, staff and the community, joined by ex-student and Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu MBE and Deputy Mayor of London for Culture and Creative Industries, Justine Simons OBE.

A group of people gathered around a UCL branded lectern with a giant button on it, sharing the pushing of the button

Hundreds of people gathered to mark this historic moment in UCL's near 200-year history, in a series of events that included an open house afternoon where the public toured the campus's new Marshgate building on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Guests were invited to take part in a variety of activities linked to the university's wide-ranging research and teaching.

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, local MP Stephen Timms, Chair of London Legacy Development Corporation Board Lord Peter Hendy and London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai joined Professor Paola Lettieri FREng, Pro-Provost UCL East, UCL President and Provost Dr Michael Spence and Chair of UCL Council Victor Chu CBE for the official moment, which took place in the vast atrium of Marshgate which, along with One Pool Street, will welcome students across an exciting array of degre programmes next week.
