More than 300 young people aged between 12 and 17 returned to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the EAST Summer School, after it was held virtually last year.

UCL East brought together a number of UCL departments and faculties: UCL Institute of Making, UCL Connected Environments Lab, UCL Special Collections, The Slade School of Fine Art, the City Mill Skate project, UCL Engineering, Institute of Healthcare Engineering and UCL Ethnography, took part. Our East Bank partners - UAL, Sadler’s Wells, BBC, V&A - also delivered a range of activities, alongside our other partners on the Park, including Here East, Foundation for Future London, City of London, Culture Mile Learning, Mace, LMA, Staffordshire University and Bloom.

The 35 exciting courses engaged and inspired young people on a vast range of subjects, including fashion, music, engineering, dance, horticulture, media, business, coding and computer game design.

The participants learned new skills, made new friends and gained the confidence to think about their futures in creative industries and careers - using the resources that the EAST site will offer them.

This short video showcases the range of workshops and outcomes from the school, and was created with soundtracks by participants from the BBC Music Making Mix course.
