Bio-Robotics: inspiring the next generation of engineers

In 2017/18 UCL delivered a bio-robotics project to nine east London schools

Schools engagement

11 September 2018

UCL Culture, the Departments of Computer Science, and Bio-Medical Engineering worked together alongside young people aged 11-18 to explore the links between robots and animal movement.

The term-long project included: the loan of a robotics kit, a twilight Continuing Professional Development session for teachers, an Animal Locomotion workshop at UCL’s Grant Museum of Zoology, a tour of the campus, visits to each school by UCL students to support teachers and their pupils with programming and using the robotics kit.

It got the kids really excited. The photo instructions were extremely clear (for the bio-robotics at school). The kids enjoyed all of the workshop activities, especially the museum trail and the more competitive activities. The UCL student ambassadors were excellent.”
