The UCL delegation attends the launch of the 'Centre for the Technologies of Gene and Cell Therapy'

5 September 2023

Following the earlier announcement that UCL has been named a key strategic partner in the new €30m EU-funded 'Centre for the Technologies of Gene and Cell Therapy' (CTGCT), the kick-off ceremony took place on 5 September in Slovenia.

UCL named key strategic partner in EU’s new ‘Centre for the Technologies of Gene and Cell Therapy’

Dr Jane Kinghorn, Director of the Translational Research Office, led a UCL delegation to join representatives from the European Commission, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, and other project partners in attending the ceremony at the National Institute of Chemistry of Slovenia, followed by a productive internal kick-off meeting. During the meeting, key stakeholders reaffirmed the project's objectives and discussed various aspects of its implementation.

At the ceremony, Dr Jane Kinghorn delivered a short speech, expressing UCL’s commitment to sharing knowledge through this partnership project in support of the next generation of scientists in Slovenia and across Europe.

UCL scientists will act as a trusted experienced partner to the Centre, to support the transfer of knowledge of translation of Advanced Therapies (ATMPs) through to the clinical and commercial setting. This project may also facilitate cross-partner scientific collaborations to address current challenges and hurdles in progressing novel ATMP therapies in oncology and rare genetic diseases.

Look out for more announcements through the TRO describing opportunities for UCL researchers to become involved.
