The application of the modern principles of nanotechnology forms a central component of the research activity within the Research Department of Nanotechnology.

The Department is located at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in Hampstead, North London. The vibrant mixture of UCL and NHS staff fosters close research links, based on strong scientific expertise aligned to clinical strengths. The emphasis is on translational outcomes.
The Department has strong expertise in Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Transplantation Science, Nanomedicine, and Solid Cancer Theranostics.
The Centres within the Department reflect:
(a) scientific technologies cutting across research themes: Centre for Biomaterials, led by Dr Wenhui Song and Centre for Cell Biology, led by Dr Ashleigh Boyd.
(b) System-based translational clinical research: Centre for Vascular Studies, led by Dr Janice Tsui and Centre for Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Liver Transplant Studies, led by Professor Brian Davidson.
