DSD: Basic image editing using free tools - demo
Course Description:

This demonstration session will introduce you to some basic image editing techniques using either free tools or those you are likely to already have access to, such as Office apps or operating system apps.

Once you have booked on the course you will be able to access all of the online materials in our Digital Skills Development Moodle course.

This is a one hour session delivered remotely.

IMPORTANT:

Once you have enrolled, please check that you have received a confirmation email from MyLearning. You will also receive an email with a joining link at least one day before the session.

Courses start on the hour but please join during the 5 minutes prior to this to download resources and test out your connection/audio.

Objectives:
By the end of the session you will be familiar with:
  • Image file types,
  • Converting from one file format to another,
  • Understanding file size, pixels and resolution, physical dimensions,
  • Resizing images,
  • Basic editing features such as cropping, rotating, framing, light and colour adjustments, artistic effects, spot fixes, removing backgrounds, etc.
  • An introduction to working with layers,
  • Sources of free images,
  • Creative commons copyright licences,
  • Image editing in Word and other Office apps.
  • Image editing using native apps in Windows (and Mac OS)
  • Basic features of one of the popular free editing tools, such as Pixlr.
Intended Audience:
This demonstration session is aimed at those wishing to learn some basic image editing techniques using apps they already have access to or which are available for free.
