We are very pleased to announce that five of our colleagues have been promoted in the 2022-23 round of senior promotions, effective on 1 October.

Associate Professor - Michael Plouffe
Associate Professor (Teaching) - Maki Kimura
Associate Professor (Teaching) - Noele Crossley
Professor - Lucy Barnes
Professor - Zeynep Bulutgil

Dr Plouffe's research examines topics that tend to fall within the scope of analytical political economy, emphasising the interactions between domestic and international phenomena. Topics of interest include trade policy, monetary policy, institutional quality, and the internationalisation of production.

Dr Kimura's broad research interests are in the areas of gender and racial equality, and social justice. She is currently undertaking a research study on ‘War memorials: embodying traumatic pasts and constructing memories of war’, funded by BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants, exploring how ‘affect’ and emotion are mobilised to form and legitimise contemporary political identities.

Dr Cossley's research interests are in the areas of international security and peace and conflict studies. Specific research interests include humanitarianism and international norms of protection.

Prof Barnes focuses on the politics of economic policymaking in rich Western democracies (including the UK). She is interested in examining the interface between political science and political philosophy, the politics of inequality and redistribution, of fiscal policy and government budgets, and the politics of taxation.

Prof Bulutgil works at the intersection of international relations and comparative politics. Her works focus on political violence, state formation, ethnic mobilisation, religion, and politics. Her books on the causes of ethnic cleansing and institutional secularisation explore big social science questions that have largely been neglected by mainstream political science.

Congratulations to all!
